Its
international time!
While the friction at Gandhinagar is going high, those who are silent
are looking beyond normal cinema and some achievements. Its time
again for veterans and films from Karnataka to mark on the
international scale. First one comes in the form of Girish Karnad.
Successful dramatist, actor and director Girish Karnad
will be a member of jury at 56th Locarno International
Film Festival. This will be held at Switzerland from August
6th to 16th this year. Girish Karnad's film Sanskarana won the
Bronze Leopard in this festival in 1971. Last year his film
Ondanondu Kaladalli was screened at Locarno Film Festival.

Film Festival:
The Locarno International Film Festival aims to promote personal
filmmaking of artistic merit; to provide a showcase for major
new films of the year from around the world; to take stock,
in its competitive section, of the new perspectives of filmmaking
expression, concentrating especially on such new film directors
and industries as command international attention. A minimum
of five and a maximum of seven personalities from the world
of cinema and culture will be invited by the Director and
President to form the Festival's international Jury.
The Locarno Film Festival is organized by the Festival Association.
Its principal subsidies are provided by the Swiss Federal
Government, the Canton Ticino, the Tourist Offices and Municipal
Authorities of the region. Additional financing is provided
by other associations, organizations, institutions and private
sponsors.
Kannada film Artha directed by B. Suresh will
be screened at 5th Cinemaya International Film Festival. 78
films from different parts of Asia are participating in this
festival. This festival began in Delhi on 18th July and will
end on 27th July. Artha is the only Kannnada film to be selected
to participate in the festival. Shiva Kumar has produced
this film while cinematography by Ramachandra Aithal.
Megha Nadiger, Renukamma Muragod, Rangayanada Raghu, Arundhathi
Jathkar, Kiran Barkur etc are among the cast.
