Jogi - Jennifer's Kannada debut
If
you are a television buff, this is no new face for you. But
she is new to Kannada silver screen. Yes, we are talking about
Jennifer Kotwal who is playing the lead role opposite Shivarajkumar
in most expected movie 'Jogi'. Debut venture of Ashwini Ramprasad,
this movie is creating waves in Gandhinagar. Bollywood wannabes
and glamour dolls are throbbing Kannada showbiz industry and
Jogi is no exception. After Bollywood hot property Yana Gupta
stepping for an item number in Jogi, now it is bubbling Jennifer
making her debut in Kannada.
This
model turned actress is remembered even today for her performance
in a television serial 'Just Mohabbath' that deals with teenagers.
That was her jumping board to Bollywood big screen. And ad
world opened its doors to photogenic appeal of Jennifer. She
was featured in commercials of popular brands like Close Up,
Lakme, Dabur, Sun Cadbury Perk, Fanta soft drink, Hero Honda,
Breeze Soap, Godrej Fair Glow, Britannia Time Pass, Bharat
Petroleum Engine oil and so on. Best of all, she modeled with
Amitab Bachan in Dabur and with Sharuk Khan in Top Ramen noodles
ads. For this commerce graduate, modeling came her way by
fluke but her heart is in acting. "We have to take life as
it comes," says Jennifer like a philosopher! Apparently Sameer
(Dhyan) was her classmate in Mumbai. Since he is pretty familiar
with Kannada film industry after three films, Jennifer learnt
about Gandhinagar from him she says. Appeared as a college
student in a Telugu flick 'Manasunte Chalu', Jennifer plays
the role of a journalism student in Jogi. She meets the hero
for her project and it goes on from there. "I've fallen for
this role. At the same time, producer of this film too is
very professional. That made me accept this assignment," she
says. She also admits that film profession in Bollywood is
not an easy sailing and exposure takes precedence, which she
doesn't like!
As
he always says, 'no cutting corners' is the mantra of producer
Ramprasad. Unlike many filmmakers who talk about big budget
but produce shoddy products, Ramprasad is confident of reflecting
the quality on screen. Almost 40% of Jogi is completed and
presently the troupe is in Rajasthan. Working with hat trick
hero Shivarajkumar, director Prem too is aiming at hat trick
hit film after Kariya and Excuse Me. Jogi is scheduled to
hit the screen on 22 April 2005!
