'Miss California' - new Kannada cinema by NRI Dr. Ravi Dattatreya

Its better this way to say Kannada films are attracting filmmaker from outside than saying Kannada films are expanding its horizons. A producer from neighboring states producing Kannada film is not new but NRI Kannadigas showing interest in Sandalwood films is something special. From Nanna Preethiya Hudugi to recent film Joke Falls quite a few Kannada films are made by NRIs. Addition to the list is Dr. Ravi Dattatreya from California. His daughter Mallika is producing a Kannada film titled 'Miss California' based on the novel 'Megha Mandaara' by C.N. Muktha. Song recording for this movie was started couple of days back. As the title says, is a story of a girl from California who tries to adapt Indian culture and customs. How a person grownup in an American acculturation faces problems in this transition is the thread of this movie. Kodlu Ramakrishna is directing Miss California'.

Producer Ravi Dattatreya and Ram Prasad

Though this movie is produced by Ravi Dattatreya, an entrepreneur from California, its singer Ram Prasad who has taken the entire responsibility of execution as an Executive Producer. And he will be lending male voice for all songs in the movie. Ravi Dattatreya is a music director himself. His company in the US develops music composing software. 'Miss California' has Ravi's music. Hunt for hero and heroine is one. They are in the process of finalizing it. They are leaned towards a girl from California itself for the heroine role.

'Miss California' is going to introduce some new talents. Nandini is one of them who was working in the US as Software Engineer and now she is back home. She always had interest in acting and hence, will be playing a key role here. Film is expected to hit the floors by September and will be shot in America, Bangalore and Tirthahalli.
