Mourya - Meera Jasmine in Kannada
Competitiveness
and quality films are the buzzwords in Kannada showbiz industry
off late. Of course, it is the need of the hour to survive
and sustain the business today. Known for quality products,
producer Rockline Venkatesh has ventured into a project that
is nearing completion. This film 'Mourya' directed by ingenious
director S. Narayan, is a remake of Telugu flick 'Amma Nanna
O Tamil Ammai' and has Puneet
Rajkumar in the lead. Mourya has adequate changes say S. Narayan
who directed Chandra Chakori - a trendsetter of the recent
past.
Despite
of remarkable success of films like Chandra Chakori, it is
surprising to see directors of his caliber going after remakes!
If we try to analyze the quantum of remakes we do every year
vs. Kannada films being remade in other languages, remakes
we do takes the lion share! Narayan says, he has given it
enough thoughts to analyze why we are failing to attract other
film industries; but fails to conclude! As a matter of fact,
from Autograph to Pithamagan to Amma Nanna O Tamil Ammai,
Kakka Kakka, Thanga Padakkam, Manichitrathazu, Mutthu, Parthiban
Kanavu, Kalisundam Raa, Aan Paavam and so many other films
from neighboring states raises the eyebrows of our filmmakers.
Ironically, we fail to justify that 'Bhagban' is based on
old Kannada movie 'School Mestru'! Why? It is a serious matter
for our filmmakers and directors to sit and think.
Meera Jasmine, who is known to everyone by now by winning
this year's best actress national award plays the heroine
role in Mourya. Maturity of this well-spoken young girl goes
way beyond her age! For this girl hailing from a traditional
Christian family, cast and communism are the
least concerned areas. Opportunities came her way though she
does not have any godfathers. Was 14 when she entered the
glamour world and through 'Padam Onnu… Oru Vilapam' she got
the prestigious National Award this year. She sensibly says
"there are good and bad movies but nothing called art films
and commercial films…". Counterpart to another national award
winner Puneet (best child actor), this girl is very choosy
when it comes to her roles. "I accept the role only if I'm
confident of giving justice to that role. I should live that
character..." says Meera who is appearing as a glamorous heroine
in Mourya.
This film is almost completed except the shooting for two
songs. Mourya has Gurukiran's music and audiocassettes are
expected to hit the market by this week.
