Honor to Melody Queen P. Susheela

P. Susheela Here is a praiseworthy move by Sangeeth Melody Orchestra, Bangalore. As their continued effort of extending their tributes to music legendaries, they are honoring well-known singer P. Susheela with title 'Gaana Saraswathi'. This function will be held at Ravindra Kalakhetra on April 10th. They honored another legendary P.B. Srinivas last year.

P. Susheela - the very name evokes memories of many super hits songs of South Indian movies rendered in her rich, reverberating and resonant voice, be it in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam or Kannada. With her mellifluous voice she has breathed life into thousands of lyrics, bringing out the right emotion lying under each word and making the song waft straight into the listener's heart. She learnt classical music from Dhawaram Venkataswami Naidu and entered film industry in 1952. 'Petra Thaai' was being made in 1952 in Tamil (Kanna Thalli in Telugu) with A. Nageswararao and G. Varalakshmi in lead roles. Susheela sang her duet song with A. M. Raja - 'Edhukku azhaithaai' for that movie. She never looked back from then and her contribution to South Indian film industry is incomparable. She has sung innumerable filmy and non-filmy songs in Kannada, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam and many of them are evergreen hits. ‘Viraha Nooru Nooru Taraha…' of Edakallu Guddada Mele is just an instant pick of her treasury! Her songs from films like Sharapanjara, Belli Moda, Kula Gourava, Tulasi, Sarvamangla, Paropakari, Baduku Bangaravayitu etc are just impossible to forget. She received many State and National award. She was the recipient of the national award for best singer in the years 1969, 1971, 1977, 1982 and 1983. At the state level, both Tamilnadu and Kerala have honored her with several awards. The Tamilnadu Government recognized her genius in the years 1968, 1980, 1981, 1989 and 1991 with various titles, prizes and awards.

On April 10th 2004, during the honor ceremony she will be singing some of her popular songs. This will be a very rare treat for music lovers to listen to The entry to this function will be through tickets and for more details you can contact Mr. M. Krishnamurthy of Sangeeth Melody.
