Udupi Jayaram passed away
Udupi
Jayaram, an acclaimed choreographer of yesteryear died on
Wednesday due to cardiac arrest in Chennai. Born in Udupi,
this 75 year old dance master who was ailing from memory lose
disease left behind his wife, three sons and a daughter.
Jayram was an unusual dance director having mastered classical dance styles of Bharathnatyam, Kathak, Manipuri and Kuchipudi. While most of the choreographers are going after western culture, Jayaram lived up purely on local and traditional dance styles with more than 500 films in his credits in languages like Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Tulu.
Though he started his dance career during 1945-46, after ten years, he independently choreographed for 'Bhagyodaya' in 1956. Apparently, 'Bhagyodaya' was the movie that introduced Kannada superstar of yesteryear late Udayakumar! Jayaram used to find it challenging to compose dance for Kannada films, as they were melodious and used to have meaningful lyrics, which we wont find today! He has worked with all most all stars of Kannada filmdom. Baduku Bangaravayithu, Kavirathna Kalidasa, Premada Kanike, Bangarada Manushya, Sanadi Appanna, Girikanye, Sose Thanda Soubhagya, Malaya Marutha, Muttina Haara etc are the super hit films choreographed by Jayaram. We at viggy.com deeply mourn the passing away of the legendary and pray god to give courage to Jayaram's family members to bear the irrevocable loss with resilience.
