Aham Premasmi - film review
The
wait is finally over. The eagerly awaited, keenly anticipated
film of the year has finally hit the marquee. Ravichandran's
Aham Premasmi has arrived to sweep you off your feet!
When a trailblazer of Ravichandran's caliber puts his best
for eight long years, expect nothing but a cinematic gem.
So is Aham… The industry is going through a major creative
transition. Worn-out formula is being kicked-out by the audience.
So the crazy star floats the audience with crazy ideas, with
something that really entertains you! The visuals of course
are the high points of this movie. Magnificent sets, wowing
special effects, effective music- everything adds up to make
Aham a technically brilliant movie. What it lacks is an effective
storyline.
You
cant expect Ravi's movies without glamour and romance! He
redefines love once again in Aham Premasmi. He says, the latent
love in every individual will explode one or the other day.
So happens with the hero Ishwar (Balaji). His conscious says,
romance and love is not for a poor person like him but his
heart provokes him! And the later wins the battle! Hence enters
Apsara in Ishwar's life without his knowledge. Ravichandran
once again drives you to the world of fantasy supplemented
by amazing graphics and sets.
As the name says Apsara (Aarti Chabria) is gorgeous and 'glamorous'!
This daughter of a greedy rich man values brain than wealth.
And hence she throws five conditions to the lover boys - like
swayamvara! Not something new but the way the director answers
them is pretty romantic and interesting. And obviously, the
hero has to win her heart solving all her question! The actual
drama takes place in the post-interval. There are several
consequences between the father and daughter, which are no
different from conventional formula. Climax is more like a
drama with an overdose of a lengthy speech! Its better if
Balaji be himself instead of trying to imitate his brother
at times! Sharan and Ganesh form a hilarious pair - just superb.
So is Chitra Shenoy in the supporting role.
For
the first time, Ravichandran characterized himself without
a heroine. Of course, that is what the story demands! From
music to selection of apt locations to editing, one can see
the touch of his technical professionalism and mastery. Seetharam
has done a wonderful work behind the camera. Is a winner all
the way - in terms of direction, music, scripting, cinematography
and whats more - is a pioneer to use the digital grading in
Kannada that makes this rich film look richer! In a nutshell,
Aham Premasmi marks the dream of a dreamer come true!
