Ambi - film review
N. Kumar is one such producer who has been associated with
quality films and produced quite a number of quality films
for the past few years. And obviously, a lot of hopes were
pinned on his 25th film 'Ambi'. But unfortunately, the film
fails to meet the expectations.
Dr.
Nagendra Prasad who is basically a writer forayed into film
direction with Nalla two years back and triggered off with
second experiment with Ambi. Although the two stories are
diverse as chalk and cheese, the common thread that binds
them is that both talk of love! However, Ambi is a run of
the mill film which cine-goers are tired of seeing innumerable
times.
As usual, Ambi (Aditya) is a rowdy. But there is a reason
behind that. He takes on crime when his mother commits suicide
because a police officer rapes her. He also loses his sister
who dies of starvation. Ambi takes revenge by killing that
police officer. Annaji (Kishore) a local don impressed by
Ambi's strength brings him to the underworld and becomes his
Godfather.
Ambi becomes a 'supari killer' and rules the underworld. Meanwhile
a T.V. anchor Pallavi (Manya) sees him kill a politician.
Ambi destroys her video equipments
and as a result, she loses her job. While she is in search
of a new job, Ambi comes to her help without knowing that
she is the same Pallavi who is an eyewitness to his murder!
And so does she! Slowly cupid strikes between them… Without
even seeing each other, they fall in love! But Ambi soon comes
to know about her and he decides to reform himself by surrendering
to the police. But his mentor Annaji becomes the hurdle. What
happens next? That forms the crux and ends with a happy note.
For action films to hold an attraction for the audience, it
ought to be dramatized with hair-raising and spine chilling
stories. That's the prime area where Ambi falters. It has
nothing new to offer - be it the story nor the screenplay.
Director Nagendra Prasad has also ventured into dialogues,
lyrics and music departments. Wearing multiple hats is another
aspect that acts as a
spoilsport. It's only a few dialogues and scenes that keep
your attention focused on screen. Music is lackluster. There
was no need to fiddle with Da.Ra. Bendre's one of the most
popular songs 'Nee Hinga Nodabeda Nanna'.
Aditya is decent in portions but falls short compared to his
earlier hit 'Deadly Soma'. Heroine Manya passable and add
to the glamour quotient. It is Shobharaj who looks different
and impresses when it comes to acting department. Bullet Prakash
too has given a decent performance. Nothing much to talk about
the rest. Technically, Ambi is an average film.
