Deadly Soma - film review
When
you have a title like Deadly Soma, you know what to expect
- action and loads of action. You get to see every alternate
scene with choppers, dons, cops, politicians, blood and gore.
Debutant director Ravi Srivatsa has picked a real life story
of Soma who ruled the underworld in Bangalore for over three
years. Interestingly, this film has equal scope for family
sentiment though is underplayed. Journo Ravi Belegere who
has written this story also lends his voice in-between which
give you the feeling of watching his popular TV program 'Crime
Story'!
This film revolves around a sober young boy Soma belonging
to a rich family. Crime, violence and underworld had no room
in his life. But certain inescapable incidents turn him into
a criminal. As result, he departs from his loving parents
and establishes himself as an underworld don in Bangalore.
The film concludes with an encounter and you know what will
be the culmination! No price for guessing!
The story of Deadly Soma isn't new. In fact, a storyline like
this has been witnessed umpteen number of times on the screen
before. To bring in the commercial values to a regular story,
director Ravi Srivatsa has laced it with balanced sentiment
and action. However, in the process of highlighting the hero,
such films often leave an impression on the audience that
the lead character indeed is a good Samaritan which is untrue!
There
is no second word about the capabilities of director Ravi
Srivatsa from a technical standpoint. If not handled rightly,
there were chances of Deadly Soma becoming a plain mediocre.
With solid grip on script and dialogues, Srivatsa demonstrated
the potential of him directing good entertainers in the future.
Audhitya does a very decent job. His performance in earlier
films Love and Adi are no way comparable with it. Rakshita
has nothing much to do. Tara and Avinash are competent with
small but effective roles. Music by Sadu Kokila is functional,
with couple of interesting songs. And so is the camera work
by Mathew. Overall, Deadly Soma has the potential of ringing
the cash register if we look at the current trend of successful
Kannada movies!
