Mayur Patel in Gunna
  Gunna - film review

Sudeep in GunnaWhat it takes to make a movie enjoyable? Making, presentation, starcast, music and of course the ambiance if you are a serious cinegoer. Keeping this in mind, one of the known producers of Kannada Sa.Ra. Govindu released his film 'Gunna' yesterday (May12) starring youngster Mayur Patel in the lead. To survive amidst the much-awaited season of biggies, a movie of newcomers has to pull the crowed by hook or crook. So the filmmaker used the tactic of age-old 'olfaction movies'. During 1940 and 50, this was tried by Hollywood filmmakers and failed to attain the expected results. The objective of 'olfaction' is to reinforce the realistic effect of the scenes by diffusing fragrances according to the scenes. Of course, the tie between music and scent is intimate. But to get the desired result, it has to be done professionally in 'right' atmosphere. Otherwise, it boomerangs and that is what happened with Gunna show at Narthaki Theater yesterday. Instead of creating a soothing ambience, 'olfaction' created a suffocating environment. Audience started screaming but the torture continued. As a result, some had to walkout. Fragrance of 'phenol' was pumped from four corners of the balcony using Bajaj air coolers and what else can you expect from it! Instead of spending lakhs on this arrangement, the producer could have spent a part of it to add a few more fans to beat the heat of May!

Rangayana Raghu in Gunna However, 'olfaction' failed to do its trick for Gunna. When it comes to the movie, its neither an action flick nor a comedy movie. Has good story but poor narration. Good performance but sloppy editing. You can compromise on it since it's a film by a new director! Its Rangayana Raghu who makes an impression. Mayur Patel undoubtedly is a potential actor but the director miserably fails to extract the best out of him unlike Yogaraj Bhat in Mani. So is the heroine Chaitra Hollikere. However, some relief for Sudeep's fans. Apart from stepping for a song, he also appears in a fight! On the whole, Gunna is a routine fare and has nothing special to offer!

Direction: Dwarki
Producer: Sa.Ra. Govindu
Music: Mahesh
Cinematography: Sundarnath Suvarna
Cast: Mayur Patel, Sudeep, Chaitra Hallikere, Bhavya, Rangayana Raghu, Ramesh Bhat, Tulasi Shivamani etc
