  Love Story - film review

Mayur in Love StoryHow can anyone ever forget that melodious number "Tere mere beech main…" from Kamal Hassan starrer Ek Dooje Ke Liye. And if you want to listen to those melodies in Kannada and experience the visual treat, don't miss Madan Patel's home production 'Love Story', a remake of this blockbuster. There is nothing much to talk about the story of this trendsetter. The movie sees love in a simple perspective but the storyline slowly unfolds the complex problems lovers in India face, especially from parents who consider the word 'love' as offensive!

Love Story has a tragedy end. Both hero and heroine die at the end. To some extent Mayur Patel tried to give his best but the director Bharati Kannan fails to take a ride on the narration. It could be because of his multiple responsibilities as director and an actor! He plays the father role of the heroine. Result - you can feel the direction going out of control and lack of concentration. There is no doubt about the acting skills of Mayur. But he needs someone who can extract best of his potential. Mani, his debut film by Yogaraj Bhat was an example. However, the good thing about Mayur is that he did not imitate Kammal Hassan. He maintained his own acting style and expressions. And so is Tanu Roy, the female lead, who tried to prove herself but has a long way to go. Another heroine Vindya too has good talents and she suited the role pretty well. After a long time, Pramila Joshai has got a role where she could utilize her acting skill to the fullest.

If you watch Love Story without comparing it with its original (Kamal's performance or Balachandar's direction), you surely will enjoy the film and those melodious songs.

Direction: Bharati Kannan
Producer: Madan Patel
Music: S.A. Rajkumar
Cinematography: Mathew
Cast: Mayur, Tanu Roy, Kitti, Pramila Joshai, Bharati Kannan, Vindya, Chitra Shenoi etc
