Magic Ajji - film review
Magic
first, logic next. Yes, you cant expect logic in fantasy movies
because the objective of such movies is to take the audience
to a different dream world of illusion. And so is Magic Ajji,
a trendsetter in Indian Cinema with a whopping 2 Crores budget
for a children film! On top of it, Magic Ajji is completely
shot on Hi-Definition camera with over 40 minutes of computer
graphics. Cinematographer turned director Dinesh Baboo directed
this movie for Rajassu Combines of A.N. Subbaraju.
Rajassu Combines never produced films for the sake of it.
With films like 'Muttina Hara', this production house always
aimed at 'quality' entertainers with a specific goal. In today's
scenario where most producers hesitate to invest on 'sellable
stars', Subbaraju dared to produce a children film with a
budget of a commercial movie! "Money comes and goes," says
this producer. "If people like the movie, its worth our efforts"
he added.
Released this week, Magic Ajji stars actress Kushbu in the
lead and Master Tejas plays the other key role. It deals with
the everlasting love and affection of granny-grandson with
loads of fantasy to fascinate the kids. Film starts with a
100-year-old granny (Kushbu) of a royal family who then turns
into a friendly ghost to help her grandson (master Tejas).
The only boy of this royal family is ill treated by his uncles
to grab the property. But with the help of his granny (ghost),
he manages to teach them all a lesson and gets his place in
the family.
Director
Dinesh Baboo has handled this simple fairytale so nicely,
at times even adults slip into their childhood memories while
watching! A song picturized on a digitally simulated haven,
underwater, hell and colorful garden takes the kids to a different
world. It was amazing to see kids jump on their seat with
joy! Ajji made her magic. Ramesh Bhat and Mandya Ramesh make
everyone laugh with comedy spin. Kushbu wins as a 'good-looking'
Ajji! Computer graphics, which delayed the movie by 10 months,
is another interesting factor of the movie. However, there
was a lot more scope for much more realistic graphics and
animations. But if we keep the time and money factor in mind,
it can be called as a decent work! Magic Ajji is certainly
an entertainment unlimited for kids and surely 'a film for
people from eight to eighty'!
