Namma Basava - film review
Veera
Shankar's directorial debut Namma Basava is a classic example
of a plot nested to suite the image of the lead actor. A few
filmmakers are refusing to adjust to the fast-changing times
and churning out products that are an extension of what they
attempted before. And so is Namma Basava. Nothing unusual
as far the story goes and the loudness of a 'typical' Telugu
film reflects throughout. Compared to Puneeth's earlier films,
Basava has nothing much to talk about. But of course, he is
proving his maturity and perfection in movie after movies.
Basava (Puneeth Rajkumar) an unemployed youth happens to meet Gowri
(Gowri) and plans to win her heart by portraying himself as
a police officer. Though he succeeds to gain what he intends
to, he spoils the plot while trying to teach Gowri's father
a lesson. During the course, the home minister's son Papmapathi
decides to marry Gowri. Rest of the stuff goes as you expected…
How Basava wins the game forms the climax.
From
the introduction till the climax, you can see variety of stunts
well composed. They of course suite the actor well. Puneeth
is just brilliant. Gowri has done a neat job. And so is Tara.
Gurukiran's music is another plus of the film. Datta has handled
the camera pretty well. Another interesting factor of the
film is the set erected by Arun Sagar at Nettakallappa Circle.
On the whole, Namma Basava is targeted mainly at those who
enjoy chilling stunts by Appu. At the box-office, the film's
fate rests on a strong word of mouth.
