Amrutha Dhare releasing this week
Director,
writer Nagathihalli Chandrashekhar went a step ahead to become
a producer with his home production Amrutha Dhare that
is hitting the screens this Friday (Sept. 16). Disastrous
failure of his earlier film Paris Pranaya has built a tremendous
pressure on this filmmaker and the success of Amrutha Dhare
is extremely crucial for Nagathi - both from the financial
perspective as well from his professional aspects.
Amrutha
Dhare has Ramya and Dhyan in the lead. Or we can say, this
film has Amitabh Bachan in the lead! It might not be the case
in the film however, but if you look at the film promotions,
that is what it conveys! All recent movies of Nagathi from
America America to Paris Pranaya were shot mainly in foreign
locations. But this time, it has pure Indian essence from
Kanyakumari to Ladak! According to him, it's not for cost
cutting but the story does not demand foreign locales! Film
has music by Manomurthy.
Kannada films are excelling and filmmakers are looking beyond
the ordinary. And it's leading to a healthy competition. At
the same time, it's the question of survival and sustainability
for many producers. As a result, everyone has to look for
'something different' that pulls the audience to the theaters.
A lot publicity gimmicks are being played. But in case of
Amrutha Dhare it's the appearance of legendary Big B for the
first time in the history. And of course, it's a USP for this
film! After coming back from Mumbai shooting, the director
said, " I requested him to act in my film because he was an
apt fit. After reading the book `To Be Or Not To Be' I became
a fan of Big B". He also said in a media brief that he is
not going to cash on Amitabh Bachan or his name. But today
if you look at the promotions - be it the ad or a hording
or the trailers, Bachchan gets the lion share everywhere!
Nothing wrong in it. Such aggression is needed in today's
scenario. But why the hesitation to speak it out?
Situation in Kannada showbiz industry is not the same as it
was three years ago. Films are ringing the cash registers.
Producers fighting against other language films to get K.G
Road theaters are now fighting within themselves! Released
films are glued to theaters. Deadly Soma, Mental Manja, Jogi,
Namma Basava and Auto Shankar are doing well in the box office.
As a result, the usual theater crunch. As a matter of fact,
Amrutha Dhare could get only three theaters in Bangalore.
It is releasing in Australia simultaneously. US release is
postponed by a week as Ashwini Production's Jogi is being
screened in the same theater (IMC6, San Jose). Instead of
Sept 16, NRKs in the US can watch Amrutha Dhare on Sept 23rd.
