Mumtaz's 'item dance' in Kanti
Kanti film troupe is back to Bangalore after 32 days shoot
in Belgaum. This untitled film was launched in November last
year. Srikanta being the lead character of the movie, it now
aptly titled as Kanti. Produced by Kanakapura Srinivas this
film is directed by Bharath - an upcoming director. Story
written by the director himself is based on the segregation
of Belgaum. This place on the border of Karnataka and Maharastra
was facing the problem of difference between people talking
two different languages. A Marathi girl falling in love with
a Kannada boy is the pulse of Kanti. Murali and Ramya are
in the lead. It can't be all love and sentiment throughout
right? So they are spicing it up with an item dance!
Initiated by Bollywood, this syndrome of 'item dance' in no
time spread to South. And how can Kannada films be left out
in the league? But the difference
is - others go for slim and sleek figures; we go for heavy
weights! And that's how Junior Silk Smitha, Gumtaz and now
Mumtaz are dearer than heroines sometime! Its Mumtaz (from
Tamil) who is spicing a dance number for Kanti. She acted
in 28 films so far including Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and
even Hindi. She acted with Mohanlal in Pandavam and in Tamil
film Chocolate where she played double role - the best of
her career she admits. Out of 28 films in her career so far,
there were only three films where she appeared as a dancer
but those are the films people remember and associate Mumtaz
with. This made her peruse her film career as an 'item dancer'
and wants to get recognition in that slot!
Murali, hero of Kanti who started his career through hit film
Chandra Chakori is happy with the role he got here. He liked
the story and the working style of director Bharath. 32 days
shooting experience in Belgaum was good says Murali.
Though it was a little tough he enjoyed the shooting there.
Was pretty cumbersome for the team to control people who used
to gather in thousands to watch the shooting! Moreover, since
this film is based on a very delicate subject, a little wacky
or harsh behavior with locals can lead to serious problems.
So it was pretty challenging for the troupe to balance both
the world and they did it! Now they are back to hometown and
busy shooting at Sammy Dream World.
Govind Namdev (Bandit Queen fame) plays the villain role in
Kanti. Venu is the cinematographer and Gurukiran has scored
the music. Kanti is expected to release during May this year.
