Kanchanaganga - film review
Unfriendly
weather, freezing blizzards and crevices are the characteristics
of Himalayan Mountains including Kanchanaganga! But they are
immersed in mesmerizing beauty of nature. So is Rajendra Singh
Babu's latest venture Kanchanaganga. It's a movie to see and
enjoy - do not compare it with realism nor contend! The way
Kanchanaganga is surrounded by crevices, ups and downs, this
movie too takes the same routes. It revolves around an orphan
who becomes a criminal in his childhood and later turns to
be a great fashion designer with straightforward attitude.
Story goes on taking turns and twists with ups and downs making
'Kanchanaganga' an apt title in literal sense!
Surya
(Shivarajkumar), an orphan boy kills his girlfriend when he
sees her kissing another schoolboy and goes to remand home.
He later becomes a great fashion designer and manages to convince
Urmila (Shreedevi) for Miss Sandalwood contest despite of
she being a hardcore protester of that contest. While the
story takes the routine path of them falling in love, the
first hairpin curve of the journey appears! Heroine's mother
opposes their marriage. Story takes further twist when the
heroine gets trapped in a plot played by the villains that
turns the hero furious. He decides to take revenge on heroine's
family for getting cheated again like in his childhood. What
happens next? Will he be able to realize the fact and will
they unite again? No prize for guessing. Its no different
from a typical commercial flick!
The
biggest plus of this movie are the picturesque cinematography
by Gourishankar. His outstanding camerawork makes it worth
watching. Story wise, nothing unusual -neither the characterization
nor the flow. Director is still going after age-old concepts
and mannerism. So are the dialogs. Shivarajkumar is at his
usual best in romance and action department with special getup.
Heroine Shreedevi though not an outstanding performance, has
done a neat job in her debut Kannada movie. Two villain roles
played by Parvin Abbas and Arjun (from Bollywood) are disappointing.
Sumalatha, Sadhukokila and Raju Ananthaswamy have given adequate
support. Music by S.A. Rajkumar is average though
a remix of golden oldie 'Naa Ninna Mareyalaare' thrills the
fans! Kanchanaganga is worth watching if you are not particular
about realism. A must watch film of Shivarajkumar fans and
for those who wants to see splendid Kulu-Manali at its best!
