'Dweepa'
won the prestigious 'Swarna Kamala' award
One of the happiest things this week is in the form of 'Swarna
Kamala' award at the 49th Annual National Film awards
for Girish Kasaravalli's film 'Dweepa'. When
asked how is Dweepa different from his other award winning
films Ghata Shraaddha', 'Tabarana Kathe', 'Taayi Saaheba'
he says "This film, based on the novel 'Mulugade' by Naa.
D'souza, was my long pending idea of having nature in the
main role. We have many films having nature in the background
but here I have a major role for rain. This simple story with
very little twists has just four characters. The story goes
like this - a small family lives in an island. This island
starts sinking as rain starts. Friction starts between the
three family members and the fourth person. Because of the
sinking island and the raising friction, they all loose faith.
In this circumstance, all characters start behaving traitorously…."
Heroine, producer Soundrya who played the main role
of 'Naagi' was very thrilled to hear the award winning news.
While Avinash in the hero role, this was the last film of
'Chomanadhudi' Vasudev Rao.
Cinematographer Ramachandra has got the first national
award for his work in `Dweepa’.
